The University of Agder invites applications for full-time fixed-term appointment as PhD Research Fellow in Education for a period of three years, at the Department of Education, Faculty of Humanities and Education. The position is currently located in Kristiansand, Norway.

In the framework of the NCCR project “Democracy Barometer” this institution is seeking two Ph.D. students. The appointment will begin between January and April 2011. The positions are open to: MA graduates in political science, economics, sociology, anthropology, public policy, mathematics or statistics in combination with a minor in social sciences.

TEEME is an international doctoral programme in early modern studies funded by the European Union. TEEME aims to integrate the study of the past with impact on the present. Our principal intellectual concern is the early modern period, understood as lasting from c. 1400 to c. 1700, the foundational age of the current world order with its political divisions and economic dependencies, in which modern European identities were formed in the context of nation-building, imperial ambition and colonial expansion. Students on the programme will bring this period into meaningful relations with current issues and concerns by focusing on the enduring traces that early modern texts and events left, and still leave, on today’s globalized world. History, literature and culture will thus be taught and studied as central to the shaping of the future.

The Taiwan Scholarship Program was established jointly by three government agencies of the Republic of China (Taiwan) — the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the National Science Council of the Executive Yuan (NSC) — to encourage outstanding international students to undertake degree programs in Taiwan.

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate on “Globalisation, the EU, and Multilateralism” (EMJD-GEM) seeks to formulate a distinctively European response to the challenges facing the contemporary global system. With this in mind, a unique set of 9 leading research institutions from across the globe have been brought together.

The GEM PhD School is a bridging exercise between various disciplines within the Social Sciences, most notably: Political Theory, Comparative Politics, International Relations, EU and other Area Studies. The Nationalism Studies Program at Central European University (Hungary) is pleased to announce its Call for Applications for Academic Year 2011/2012. This program addresses issues of nationalism, self-determination, state formation, ethnic conflict, minority protection, language and citizenship rights, and constitutional design in modern and contemporary societies. It encourages critical and interdisciplinary approaches to the study of nationalism and provides students with a theoretical and methodological background in applied social sciences. Students may specialize in Jewish studies.

The Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies funded by the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments will admit fifteen PhD students to its doctoral programme to begin October 1, 2011. Up to ten of these candidates will receive a Graduate School grant; the other candidates will be supported in their quest for funding.
