Topics: This international conference will explore and test the hypothesis that the emergence of sociology and that of antisemitism are related while at the same time competing, or even antagonistic phenomena.

The conference will be organized around ten sections: Social Movements; Political Parties and Representation; Sexuality and the Body; Methods and Methodologies; Violence, War, and Security; Development and Democracy; States and Public Policies; Identity and Multiculturalism; Citizenship; Feminism and the International.

Center of History and Cultural Anthropology and Center for Civilizational and Regional Studies of the Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, and the School of History, Political Science and Law of the Russian State University for the Humanities arrange a conference "Hierarchy and Power in the History of Civilizations".

The Conference has a history of bringing together scholarly, government and practice-based participants with an interest in the issues of diversity and community. The Conference will seek to explore the full range of what diversity means and explore modes of diversity in real-life situations of living together in community. The Conference supports a move away from simple affirmations that "diversity is good" to a much more nuanced account of the effects and uses of diversity on differently situated communities in the context of our current epoch of globalisation.

The cities of the 21st century are faced with completely new challenges: as a consequence of globally active societies, they are being increasingly transformed into hubs for transnational labour markets, mobility and immigration.

The European PhD Program in Social Protection Policy (ESPP) and the Dual Career PhD Program in Governance and Policy Analysis (GPAC2) of the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance invite junior and senior researchers to participate in a research conference on “Governance, Aid Effectiveness, Conflict and Crisis”.

The Advanced Lazarsfeldian Methodology conference focuses on advanced in social science methodology and its applications. This conference is connected with the issuing of the book Advanced Lazarsfeldian Methodology (Jeřábek, Soukup eds.). The authors of the book will take part in the conference with presentation of their chapters (Hynek Jerabek – "Paul Lazarsfeld´s Methodological Innovations", Julie Häuberer – "Latent class analysis", Petr Soukup – "Hierarchical Linear Models", Ondrej Veis – "Panel analysis", Jiri Remr – "Evaluation Research")

The "Methods Section" (RT20) of the French Sociological Association (AFS) has developed in association with a transversal epistemological engagement, the acknowledgement of the indissociable character of sociological research results and the procedures involved in that research, of the analyses produced and the modalities of that production, of the substantive conclusions and subjacent research protocols. Our objective for the 2009 Paris Congress, as during previous congresses, is to establish a milieu of exchange and discussion in full respect of methodological and sociological pluralism, which has been affirmed since the founding of our section.

We suggest the following tentative topics:
- communication in the social and individual life of humans
- culture and economy in knowledge-based societies
- biotechnologies: their social and cultural significance
- natural environment as a space for impact of social technologies
- technocracy and democracy
- sustainable development in postmodern social theories
- impact of new media upon contemporary culture and art
- spirituality and new patterns of behaviour: their relation to contemporary forms of rationality.
