This two-day conference is meant to offer graduate students an opportunity to present papers, get helpful feedback in a friendly atmosphere, and exchange ideas both with peers and with leading academics in the field of political philosophy. In addition to parallel sessions devoted to students’ presentations, there will also be two plenary sessions. Papers may focus on any area within political philosophy, and presentations should take no longer than twenty minutes to allow at least another twenty minutes of discussion.

Grantová agentura České republiky vyhlašuje veřejnou soutěž ve výzkumu a vývoji na podporu postdoktorských grantových projektů. Budoucí řešitel/ka (navrhovatel/ka) musí k datu ukončení soutěžní lhůty řádně ukončit studium v doktorském studijním programu, tj. získat akademický titul Ph.D. nebo jeho ekvivalent ze zahraničí, doba od získání akademického titulu však nesmí být delší než čtyři roky. Návrh projektu je možné podat i před termínem obhajoby, navrhovatel/ka ale musí doklad o úspěšném ukončení doktorského studijního programu (nebo jeho ekvivalentu ze zahraničí) zaslat GA ČR nejpozději do 30 dnů před ukončení hodnotící lhůty. Předpokládaná doba trvání (řešení) postdoktorských grantových projektů činí nejvýše tři roky, s předpokládaným zahájením řešení od 1. ledna 2010. Uchazeči/ky mohou podávat návrhy v následujících oborech: technické vědy; vědy o neživé přírodě; lékařské a biologické vědy; společenské a humanitní vědy; zemědělské a biologicko-environmentální vědy.

The Committee of the Regions (CoR) is once again hosting its annual doctoral thesis competition on local and regional authorities in the EU. Started in 1996, the purpose of the competition is to reward doctoral theses defended at a university in an EU Member State that specifically highlight the regional and local dimension as a main theme. An independent selection board comprising university professors will award a first prize of 6000 euros and up to four additional merit prizes of 2000 euros. The candidate must have obtained his or her doctorate during the course of the two years prior to the competition being announced and the thesis must be written in one of the EU's official languages.

EUROPOLIS is a ”peer review” journal founded in 2001 within the academic community of the Political Science and Public Administration Faculty, Babes-Bolyai University. The bi-annual publication promotes Political Science scholars, focusing on research and studies that fulfill academic criteria and standards. The publication represents a framework where researchers’ interests, approaches, and methodologies meet to create high standard academic debates. Issue 6/2009 focuses on globalization, the editors encouraging contributions that deal with various aspects of the political dimensions of this phenomenon. Articles may tackle, but not restricted to, issues like the problems and opportunities created by globalization for democracy and democratization, the impact of globalization on the international regimes of human rights, the growing influence of transnational (religious and secular) actors and global institutions, the emergent global civil society, the problem of global governance, the fate of the nation-state, global security, etc.

POLSCI (Romanian Journal of Political Science) is a bi-annual journal edited by the Romanian Academic Society. It is the first peer reviewed journal of political science in Romania and also the first in the field being indexed by ISI Thompson under the Social Sciences Citation Index. The journal invites contributions on every topic, but particularly on the topic of management of the financial crisis by national governments and the European Union and other intergovernmental organizations. They are particularly interested in papers contributing to the debate on the changing role of the state in the post-globalization era and the redefinition of governance in international finance.

An international essay competition open to scholars (maximum 5 years after Ph.D.), human rights activists and journalists is launched in preparation of the Eleventh Berlin Roundtables on Transnationality on the topic of "Memory Politics: Education, Memorials and Mass Media" to be held from 21-26 October 2009. Approx. 50 successful applicants to the essay competition are invited to discuss their research and ideas with prominent scholars at some of Europe's leading research institutions. The workshop will take place at the WZB from 21 - 26 October 2009.

The European Social Science History Conference (ESSHC) 2010 will take place in Ghent, Belgium at the Bijloke Site. The aim of the ESSHC is bringing together scholars interested in explaining historical phenomena using the methods of the social sciences. The conference is characterized by a lively exchange in many small groups, rather than by formal plenary sessions. The conference welcomes papers and sessions on any historical topic and any historical period. It is organized in 28 networks, which cover a certain topic. There are two new networks: Material and Consumer Culture and Politics, Nations, Nationalism (a merger of the Politics and Nations networks).
