The department of Sociology, Tilburg University, The Netherlands announces two opened PhD positions in Sociology with the title of projects:
“Welfare state legitimacy: cross-national analyses from a multi-dimensional perspective”
“Individual and social effects of income inequality”

Eligibility:  completed master programme in sociology, social policy, or political science; (EU comparative) knowledge of social inequalities and social policies; knowledge of techniques for the analysis of large-scale survey data, especially also of multi-level analyses

University “Politehnica” of Bucharest Faculty of automatic control and computers invites postgraduate and PhD students to the SEE-MAS 2010 Summer School which aims to enhance their knowledge in the field of multi-agent systems (MAS) and to boost their research skills, during tutorials presented by outstanding researchers in the field.

The Program in Science, Technology and Environmental Policy (STEP) at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs announces its 2010-2011 Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. STEP will award one-year research positions (with the possibility of renewal for a second year) to eligible, talented researchers. These awards are designed to promote basic policy-relevant research under the supervision of one or more STEP faculty members.

The Center for Doctoral Studies in Social and Behavioral Sciences (CDSS) invites students of all fields of study in political science, psychology and sociology to apply for doctoral fellowships at the University of Mannheim's Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS). The CDSS provides an English-taught Ph.D. program. The Graduate School's special emphasis is on empirical and quantitative methods. European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) organizes summer school with the aim to give 20 PhD students working in the field of environmental politics the opportunity to exchange teaching and research ideas with colleagues from other universities and research institutes. Teaching is organised across five themes: Green political theory; International relations of the environment; Environment and global political economy; Green movements and parties; Public policy and the environment. The school will be held at the Keele University.

Institute of Economic and Social Research (WSI) at the Hans Böckler Foundation invites to summer school 2010 which is focused on the question whether or not European integration could develop towards a more Social Europe. It will provide an overview on the history, institutions and law-making procedures of the European Union and will discuss current European policy in the fields of social policy, macroeconomics, employment and labour market and industrial relations. The WSI Summer School addresses students and doctoral students as well as young researchers from all social sciences (Economics, Law, Sociology, Political Science etc.).

Center for the Research of Ethnicity and Culture (CVEK) organizes the summer school of Ethnicity and Migration Studies, two-week educational program covering topics connected with nationalism and ethnicity, de-ethnization of the public sphere, migration and integration analysis, approaches and policies. The Summer School aims to create an alternative learning platform for advanced studies for MA and PhD Students and young researchers from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, and Lithuania.

Kazakh University of Humanities and Law invites young scientists to summer academy which focus serves to discuss the possibilities and limits of OSCE`s engagement in Central Asia with particular account on regional perceptions of conflicts and security risk.Young scientists will gain the opportunity for an interdisciplinary dialogue in combination with academic research and practical experience. Subject of this is the development of realistic approaches for the regulation of various conflicts that occur within the OSCE fields of interest.

ESF supports approximately 50 Exploratory Workshops across all scientific domains.
These small, interactive group sessions are aimed at opening up new directions in research to explore new fields with a potential impact on developments in science. The workshops, which usually last 1-3 days, have a wide participation from across Europe and involve mature scientists as well as young, independent researchers and scholars with leadership potential. The relatively small scale (in terms of people involved) provides an ideal platform for focus on the topic and for all participants to contribute to discussions and plan follow-up collaborative work.  Interdisciplinary topics are greatly encouraged.
