    The COST Action 34 is organizing the Summer School on “Quantitative and qualitative methods and their relative merits in research on gender and well-being” to be held in the facilities of Porto Conte Ricerche, in NW-Sardinia from June 8th afternoon to June 13th morning 2009.
    Participants may be Ph.D. students, junior faculty, or senior professors. They have an half an hour each within an afternoon session to present their work in progress, no results necessary yet, stressing the methodological aspects of work and asking for advice on how best to proceed. Both teachers and participants should focus on: how they integrate the gender dimension in their research; how they went about finding or producing data; how they conceptualized their research, placed in literature context, formulate hypotheses, made a research plan; how they analyzed data; advantages and limitations of the methodology used; what were the main problems encountered.

    LMU (Ludwig-Maxmilians Universitat Munchen) will be awarding the 20 research fellowships to candidates who have completed their doctoral studies in any field, having graduated no more than three years ago with outstanding results. The fellows must be able to design a research project and successfully carry it through to completion. They will have two full years to conduct their research at LMU and expand their academic profile. Upon a positive evaluation of the research achievement, the fellowship may be extended by another two years.

    Candidates with a strong background in the analysis of family changes in Western societies are invited to apply for a post-doctoral fellowship at the Canada Research Chair in Social Statistics and Family Change. The candidate's research program could focus on topics such as the transformation of conjugal life, the impact of family changes on fertility, balancing family and work, family life around retirement age, as well as family policies. Research projects should make extensive use of recent large Canadian surveys, and incorporate other foreign data sets for comparative analyses.
