Wellcome Trust-Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers opportunities for postdoctoral scientists to undertake research at the interfaces between biology/medicine and mathematics, engineering, computer, physical or chemical sciences, firstly at MIT and then at a UK institution. Candidates will be expected to identify an important biomedical research question and to propose a personal interdisciplinary training programme to achieve their research aims. The fellowships are for four years full-time.

The Latin American Faculty for the Social Sciences (FLACSO) will be the host of a Summer School that will be held in Mexico City on the campus of FLACSO Mexico. The University of Pisa announces a competition, based on academic qualifications, for 7 grants reserved for candidates educated abroad for admission to the “Galileo Galilei Ph.D. School”. The candidates must apply for one of the following Ph.D. programmes: physics and applied physics, mathematics, chemical sciences.

The viability of innovation processes leading to increases in productivity and faster growth depends mainly on the coordination of the accumulation of physical capital and the complementary accumulation of human capital. This will be the theme of this year’s school, with focus on the financial and the human constraints that hamper the required coordination (and their removal), in particular with reference to the skill-biased technical changes that characterize the most innovative general purpose technologies. The School is targeted to 25 doctoral students and young researchers in economics and related disciplines.

For the first time, CIFE organised from July 16 to August 4, 2007, the first summer session in Turkey in close cooperation with the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Istanbul Bilgi University.
