    The Transregional Center for Democratic Studies of The New School for Social Research is announcing the 19th Democracy & Diversity Graduate Summer Institute and welcomes a diverse cohort of forty junior scholars from The New School, Europe, and other parts of the world for an intensive program of study in society, culture and politics, this year centered around the theme “Citizens without Borders” (de-territorialization, and new practices that reshape identities and traditional notions of citizenship). A full description of courses and Institute faculty, as well as information on how to apply, will be available in early February 2010.

    PhD programme – Geological Survey, Norway (NGU)

    Applications are invited for an EU funded PhD programme at the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), including secondments to industrial and university partners. 2 positions are available starting from October 2010. The positions are for 36 months duration. The research focuses on marine biotic proxies and modeling of past climate changes in high northern latitudes. It will be implemented through a joint research project aiming to describe and identify the mechanisms and impacts of recent environmental changes in the Nordic Seas.
    PhD project 1: Focuses on bulk organic matter proxies to reconstruct surface water productivity changes during Holocene climate variability.
    PhD project 2: Focuses on the controlling mechanisms for organic matter sedimentation and preservation in the Barents Sea.

    Symantec is accepting applications for the 2011 Fellowships. Symantec Research Labs Graduate Fellowships will be awarded to outstanding Ph.D. and M.S. students who attend a U.S. or European university in a program focused on technology research. A key goal of the program is to fund innovative research in areas of Symantec's business interests in information security, availability, and integrity. Fellowship participants also gain first hand research and development experience through guidance and mentorship from a top scientist of Symantec Research Labs during the fellowship period. Each participant is also encouraged to spend a summer working with their mentor at Symantec on a research project in their area of interest.

    The overall aim of the Max Weber Programme (MWP), the largest postdoctoral training programme in the Social and Human Sciences in the world, is to support the fellows in the development of a successful academic career. The Fellowships are awarded for 12 or 24 months. Candidates should indicate the preferred period in their application.
    The EUI reserves the right to award 12 months due to the high demand for MWP Fellowships. The basic stipend is € 2,000 per month.

Its aim is to promote a paradigmatic shift by systematically addressing the relevance of transregional entanglements for phenomena of social inequalities.     The Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung (ZZF) in Potsdam, Germany, offers Young Eastern European Fellowship for the academic year 2010/2011 to study German and European History in the 20th century. This six-month fellowship will provide young scholars from East Central Europe and the former Soviet Union with an opportunity to pursue individual research while participating in the academic life of one of ’s major historical research centres. The ZZF covers a broad scope of Contemporary European History with five research departments: Communism and Society; Economic and Social Changes in the 20th Century; Changing Concepts of the Political; Regimes of the Social Sphere. Urban Society, Welfare State and Rationalization in the 20th Century; Contemporary History of the Media and Information Society.

    Applicants must have at least postdoctoral status with a significant academic record. They are expected to pursue their own research.
