This interdisciplinary conference will address key debates around the theme of engendering politics and policy. Panels will take a comparative and international perspective on what it means to engender the political process and policy outcomes.

The aim of the Expert Meeting is to examine the possibilities, chances and obstacles for the future gender equality policy on the European Union level. The discussion in this interdisciplinary and transnational forum will focus on the implementation of the EU’s gender equality regulations, on independent national policies, on the history and role of the women’s (rights) movement and the current situation of women, especially in the new member countries Slovenia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Bulgaria, but also in the “old” member states like Germany and France and also Austria.

5th International Interdisciplinary Conference.
As a central theme in social science research in the field of work and organisation, the study of gender has achieved contemporary significance beyond the confines of early discussions of women at work.

Örebro University and Linköpings University of Sweden are pleased to announce the launch of a five-year project supported to establish a Centre of Gender Excellence– Gendering Excellence (GEXcel): Towards a European Centre of Excellence in Transnational and Transdisciplinary Studies of Changing Gender Relations, Intersectionalities and Embodiment.

We seek to encourage a wide reflection on gender in modern societies, comparing concepts of masculinities from the 18th to 21st centuries. We therefore invite contributions tackling the subject from different perspectives such as history, sociology, literature, political sciences, art history or anthropology.

The purpose of the conference is to build bridges between generations of researchers in gender studies. The conference will have two branches: The first evaluates three decades of theoretical achievements in the field. The second branch concerns ongoing Ph.D. students´and post-doctoral research projects.

The seminar is orientated toward researchers/scientists and activists from the Eastern Europe engaged with feminism and human rights of women, but it is open for all interested to give a contribution to the discussion.

The International Journal of Transitional Justice invites submissions for an upcoming thematic issue on ‘Gender and Transitional Justice’. This issue will be jointly co-edited by Justice Navi Pillay of the International Criminal Court and will be published in November 2007.
