This international colloquium aims to consider the influence of Judith Butler’s theories on a wide range of disciplines and subject areas, from transgender to issues of terror, postfeminism to popular culture, bringing together experts in sociology, gender studies, political theory, and cultural studies. In particular, the colloquium aims to explore how and where Butler’s theories have and can be used in order to give us a better understanding of gender within contemporary culture and society.

During the Conference will be discussed a wide variety of interdisciplinary questions, which concern the term of the gender equality, which belong to the sphere of scholarly and practical interest of historians, philosophers, political scholars, sociologists, jurists, culturologists, anthropologists and philologists.

Exploring the intersections between gender and sexuality, as well as how other social relations (eg, race, disability) impact on and are shaped by these. The conference includes some sessions in non-traditional formats.

This issue of Outskirts looks to address feminist engagement in “Other Places” and to engage with ideas of feminism that cross national or other borders. Our aim is to explore the implications of feminist analyses for both the societies and the women who feature in the studies, and for the researchers and feminist theories that drive analyses. We seek to examine some of the particular methodologies employed by feminists doing social and cultural research. A self-reflexive examination of feminist methodologies produces questions of representation, inclusiveness and agency, and it is these themes we look to advance in this edition.

We have the great pleasure to invite everyone to participate in continuing this initiative to focus on labour and gender from a historical perspective in Stockholm in August 2008.

The aim of the conference is to bring together a wide variety of feminist scholars working on various aspects of labour history, broadly defined, to share their research, to carry on a dialogue across generational, theoretical, national and disciplinary boundaries and to continue the debate on how to re-conceptualize working-class history in more inclusive ways.

The Journal of Interdisciplinary Feminist Thought (JIFT) invites contributions for its next issue, which will be devoted to the theme Women and Social Justice.

The popular straddles disciplines, drawing together research that might otherwise remain discretely sited. This conference will interrogate how the popular and feminism has been understood, articulated and represented both in contemporary cultures and throughout history. Interdisciplinary in its approach, the conference will bring together scholars working in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Accepted papers investigate the representation of feminism in popular culture as well as theorise the historical relationship between feminism and the popular.

A one-day conference to consider how to create public space which meets the needs of both men and women. The workshop will address the following key questions: (a) what impact will the new Gender Equality Duty have for public space? (b) what are the essentials for creating safe streets for everyone? (c) how and why do women and men use space differently? (d) how do you mainstream gender equality in the design and management of urban public spaces?

Gender remains an important concept in historical enquiry. This two-day conference will explore gender (both masculine and feminine) in domestic, national and imperial contexts. This conference invites postgraduates and academics to consider gender within these confines from the eighteenth century to the present day. The first day will provide postgraduate and academics early in their career to present papers in an informal and constructive environment.
